School of Rock has a “performance-based” approach to music lessons, with a program that prepares students to be on stage. Kids can participate in private lessons as well as group band rehearsals, with an emphasis on guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and singing. The youngest pre-school aged rockers (“Little Wing”) can begin with more exploratory music lessons and move on to group music lessons (“Rookies”) when they are first and second graders. Finally, older kids can partake in “Rock 101,” with its combination of private lessons and group rehearsals. Upon graduation from “Rock 101,” kids can sign up for the “Performance” program, in which students form bands and perform on stage. Skilled musicians are given the opportunity to audition for School of Rock’s AllStars Program, which includes a summer concert tour.
