It has the potential to be Chicago's answer to the Seine or the Thames, but the section of the Chicago River that runs through downtown has been largely underutilized for recreational purposes⎼until now. A massive $100 million overhaul project is planned to be completed in 2016. Several themed areas include: The Marina (from State Street to Dearborn Street) and The Cove (Dearborn Street to Clark Street), with restaurant spaces, public seating, a pop-up tiki bar and kayak rentals.
