Everything’s coming up diapers and we’re absolutely loving it (something we’d never thought we’d say). Something else we never thought we’d say? Pampers has just announced a “smart diaper” that tells you when your baby goes pee-pee.
Lumi by Pampers—in partnership with Logitech and Verily—is everything your high-tech dreams are made of. It’s not just a diaper—no, no. It’s more: it’s a “connected care system” that comes with diapers (obviously), a 1080p video monitor (with night vision, two-way audio and the ability to track temperature and humidity) and an activity sensor.
The video monitor is in charted territory (albeit a very luxurious version of it), but the activity sensor is where the real action is. Literally. Basically, you stick a plastic disk onto the front of the diaper and boom—you can track everything from your baby’s sleep to their feedings to key milestones to, of course, their pee-pee. That’s right, it tells you when your diaper is “wet” or “very wet” and keeps track of the last time your little angel unloaded him or herself (thankfully, number one only).
This all connects to the Lumi app (for Android and Apple), where you can see all of the data in one place, as well as glean personalized insights on your baby’s development. That’s right, Lumi has partnered with baby development experts and The Wonder Weeks to help you better understand if your spawn is keeping up with the developmental Joneses.
Say what you will about privacy and data in the modern era, but you’ll be having the last laugh when you know exactly when it’s time to change that urine-soaked sucker without touching a drop.
